Description
This is the sending unit used in the 1968 Mustang, 1968 Standard Hardtop Cougar. Cougar XR-7, and Cougars and Mustangs equipped with the Safety Convenience Panel option require the low fuel warning function.
This sender comes equipped with a new filter, brass float, and tank seal ring. Each sender is hand calibrated to factory specifications and individually tested in the original factory circuit including an original Ford Instrument Voltage Regulator and Fuel Gauge.
This sender has one terminal post. It provides the signal for fuel level. The fuel level is measured by a variable resistor inside a triangle shaped metal housing.
Very early in the 1968 model year (September of 1967) on some vehicles the fuel line was 5/16″ diameter, and the fuel sender main tube was also 5/16″. If you have one of these vehicles you should use the 1967 standard sender. The fuel and sender were both changed to 3/8″ for the rest of the production year. The tank held 16 gallons. This is the correct 3/8″ sender marked with the Ford part number C8ZF-9275-A
